About Us - History of Coldwell Banker Reeves

Coldwell Banker Reeves traces its beginning in the Sullivan area to 1977 when Kurt Koehn, Jr., who at that time had 32 years of sales experience in agriculture related businesses with the Dixie Mills Company, started Koehn Realtors with just two agents in an office along the South Service Road just west of the I-44 Exit 225 overpass. Koehn owned and operated the company for 18 years until 1985 when he sold the company to Robert and Sarah Sobolewski. Kurt Koehn, Jr. was an active broker salesperson with the company until his unfortunate passing away.

Early in their ownership the Sobolewski's recognized the value of a strong national affiliation and bought a Coldwell Banker franchise in 1986. During this time the company was located in the current First Community Plaza, also along the South Service Road. The Sobolewski's owned and operated the company until 1990 when they sold it to Dan and Marilyn McWhorter.

The McWhorter's relocated the company from #6 Community Plaza to larger quarters at #2 Community Plaza in 1994. In 1998, they built a new home specifically designed for real estate offices at 358 East Springfield and moved in September. The company still operates from this location. A branch office was added in Owensville in 2000 and another in Gerald in 2003. Both are now separate companies.

Under McWhorter's leadership, the company was the first in the Sullivan area to join the St. Louis Multi-List Service. The company was a leader in promoting agent education and was the first in having multiple agents with GRI and other designations. They also brought the first virtual tours to the area and developed the company's own capabilities in the late 90's.

The McWhorter's owned the company until March 2004, when it was purchased by Ken Reeves, the current owner. At that time the name was changed to Coldwell Banker Reeves. Since the company's inception, it has marketed over 4,400 properties, including almost 3,000 homes, 1,250 lots/acreage and over 175 commercial listings.
